Is the Ferrari Enzo the realization and living idealization of what the F50 was supposed to be back when the latter was released?

No, it isn’t. The Enzo is an abomination “obamanation” that looks like a fucking hot wheels toy.
The F50 is a really cool-looking car that gives the best impression of “race car for the street” and gets you pumped!

No. The F50 had solid motor mounts and an F1 V12. It was basically an early 90s Ferrari F1 car crammed into an F50 body. The Enzo was and always will be
just
a road car. Most of the F50 complaints have to do with how uncivilized it is. Seems like kind of the point.

The F50 is the realization and living idealization of what the F50 was supposed to be. The Enzo is the realization and living idealization of what the Enzo was supposed to be.

The F50 is the natural evolution of the F40. Handles better and doesn’t have turbo lag to muck things up. Read the impressions of those who have driven both. Clarkson aside, F50 > F40.
The Enzo is a turning point in Ferrari’s history. The focus of their road cars is absolute technical superiority, a direction alluded to earlier but permanently established with the Enzo.

Man the Enzo is awesome. Rarely have I been more floored with a car than when I discovered it at the 2002 Paris Auto Show, as a kid. On the other hand, the F50 never did much for me. If I want a brutal, racecar-for-the-road Ferrari I’ll go with the F40, if I want an ultimate V12 hypercar I’ll go with the Enzo.

Agree, they were what they were at the right time.
F50 = raw and vicious car that was considered ugly by many Ferrari Tifosi.
Enzo = Raw and vicious car that was considered ugly by many Ferrari Tifosi.
F50 is now 21 years old, and has aged amazingly well, it still is an amazing car by today’s super-car standards.
Now that the Enzo is darn near 14 years old, and has aged amazingly well, it has come to be an icon in the super-car lexicon.
My point is that all of the flagship Ferrari models are perfect for their decade, age beautifully, and also are what they were meant to be at that time.

Enzo is not a hypercar. Supercar.
Current generation of recent Hybrid’s, Koennigsegg’s, Pagani’s, Bugatti’s, etc. are Hyper.

And I am a Jeep guy too! I had a TJ and would never want a JK. Now I want a JK because the new JL is gonna suck...... lol
I have a Cherokee XJ, and the reboot of the Cherokee, well, that did suck, lol.

I’d spend less and stick with an F40 before getting and F50. For $6 million or whatever an Enzo goes for, I’d buy a new house with a 12 car garage. Just never liked the look of either car.

I think the F50 captures what it’s like to drive an F1 car - it’s peaky, revvy, torqueless engine, stuff, high strung, uncomfortable ride, etc.
I think the Enzo captures what people think it’s like to drive an F1 car - huge power, effortlessly fast, etc.
Also, I think the Enzo captured the “F1" look much better.

Back then the hypercars were the Carrera GT/SLR McLaren/Enzo. before those, it was the 959/F40/F1, much the same way the Miura is a supercar, even though it can be humiliated by a modern V6 Accord. They’ve evolved, but they’re still what they were.

Looks the JL is going to suck worse than the JK, which sucked worse than the TJ, which sucked worse than the YJ, which sucked worse than the CJ, which was apparently the best thing Jeep ever made.

The actual term “hyper” did not evolve until it was
common
for super cars to go above 200mph.

pretty much. The Fxx cars (and certain GTO’s) are all about the state of the art. I think the Enzo will be remembered about as fondly as the F50 in another generation...i.e. not well. Personally I think it looks far worse than the F50, but I’ve always liked the F50 so...

I was watching that icon owner talk about his Willys and he pronounced it like Willis. Is that how it really is pronounced, while everyone says like wet “willy”, because my grandpa never said it like that and we had one.

“What’cha talkin about WILLIS?”
To be proper it is pronounced Willis, yes. Willy’s is a common misconception because of the spelling.
Now, since we are taking over this thread, sorry WheelerGuy, do you know the origin of the name Jeep?

The brief for the F50 was meant to a be F1 car for the road iirc.
The Enzo had nothing to do with that, it’s a separate story to the F50.
But, both cars turned out similarly. So, I guess you are correct, but it’s more by coincidence if anything.
Besides, both cars have a roughly equal amount of fans and critics.

Wrangler people have had far more cause for concert with being bought by Chrysler followed by Fiat and the killing of the I6 which was one of the only things people still trusted in for a while.

Wrangler people only existed after Chrysler saved AMC and renamed them Eagle. Jeep was the big reason AMC was purchased in the first place.

Oh yeah. No Jeep (and more specifically no ZJ in the works) and no Iaccocca buyout, but Jeep would have been grabbed by someone else if AMC tried to hold out and went under. Jeep’s too valuable to disappear.

Yeah, but since it’s old enough to be emissions exempt pretty much everywhere, you may as well gank that shit and never have to think about the engine again until 300k when it’s time for a new head gasket.

Yeah, but the same could be said for just about any pre-OBD EFI diagnostic procedure. On my MR2, it entails shorting pins in an electrical box while watching the check engine light blink in the pattern that indicates which code it is.

It’s not as bad as it sounds. Still threw me for a loop the first time I did it. Mid engined, so you can see the dash in front of you through the rear window while working. There are only a few codes, so it’s not like you’re going to have to leaf through a book for it and it seems like the part starts going bad long before it starts shooting codes. It’s actually kind of clever.

They just follow similar design language, because Ferrari. The LaFerrari shares some features with the F50 that the Enzo does not, such as the black line surrounding the whole body

The F50 was the car that was faster than a F40 but comfortable enough for the driver to want to drive and not just for track sessions.
The Enzo was the next evolution.
